Synopsis:
Hawk ages out of the Chicago foster system and uses his one way train ticket to see the tallest
Christmas Tree in the World. Strapped only with his guitar and un-diagnosed PTSD, Hawk battles
the cold, loneliness, homelessness, disruptive panic attacks, and traumatic flashbacks. He crosses
paths with a mysterious World traveler named, Jefferson (Martin Sheen), who helps him find food
and introduces him to the small town. Jefferson disappears and Hawk meets Alexis (Olivia Sanabia),
a runaway teenager grieving the loss of her twin sister. Alexis’s mom, Lisa (Jana Kramer) is the
President of “The One” planning committee and is also still grieving the loss of her daughter, but
with avoidance mechanisms like putting pictures in the closet and home videos in the attic. This
has caused an unspoken rift in her relationship with Alexis. Together the two teenagers reminisce
about Hawk’s foster life, discuss the existence God, question his cultural or rather lack of cultural
background, and write a song called “Are You Here”, an original by "We The Kings". Alexis helps
Hawk get to the tree lighting ceremony while dodging her family's rescue search that includes her
zany vegetarian Aunt Jordan, her little sister Melanie, and her nurturing dad Jim (Nick Zano). As the
tree countdown begins, tragedy strikes and Jefferson returns to help the family, but is it too late?
