DOWN TO THE FELT Premieres in Columbus with Special Screenings at Studio 35 and the Drexel Theatre COLUMBUS– SEPTEMBER 4, 2025 - Central Ohio audiences will soon get the chance to experience the award-winning, locally produced feature film Down to the Felt, directed, co-written, and produced by Columbus filmmaker Jon Osbeck under his banner Big Deal Pictures. The film will premiere with two special engagements in the city:
Set in Columbus, Down to the Felt follows Paul, a chronic gambler whose life spirals out of control, and David, a haunted hitman. Together they make a pact for Paul’s death in two weeks’ time. But when Paul finally begins to find something worth living for, fate delivers an unexpected twist. The film stars Michael Stahl-David (Cloverfield) as Paul, a down-on-his-luck gambler who makes a chilling arrangement with a devout hitman, played by Michael Weston (Home Before Dark). With only two weeks to live, Paul's world is turned upside down when life suddenly starts tipping the odds in his favor. The cast also features Scottie Thompson (Murder at Yellowstone City), Jo-Ann Robinson, and Cullen Douglas in standout performances. “I’ve always been drawn to stories about redemption - about people who’ve taken hits in life but refuse to fold,” said Jon Osbeck, director, co-writer, and producer. “Down to the Feltcame from a desire to explore what happens when you're all-in emotionally, not just at the poker table. I was inspired by the idea that loyalty and second chances could collide in unpredictable ways, especially in a world that’s equal parts dangerous and absurd. The mix of high-stakes crime and dark comedy gave me a unique playground to explore those themes.” From Hawk Hill Pictures 🎥Distribution is being handled by Hawk Hill Pictures, a global film distribution company. Felt will be available via VOD next month. “Down to the Felt is exactly the kind of story that connects deeply with audiences—gritty, suspenseful, and emotionally powerful,” said Jen Katzfey, President of Hawk Hill Pictures. “The premise of the story is unique and the film is a nonstop action ride. We’re excited to bring high-quality independent film to the Columbus community and beyond.” “This film was born and made right here in Columbus, with local talent and community support at every stage,” said Jon Osbeck. “Bringing it to Studio 35 and the Drexel—two iconic venues in the city—is truly a full-circle moment. It’s an honor to premiere here first.” To screen the film or to set up interviews with cast and filmmakers, please contact Alexis Walkenstein, AWE PR, via walkensteina@gmail.com OR (561) 445-5409.For Screenings & Ticket information:Studio 35 Cinema & Drafthouse – Thursday, September 4 at 7:00 PM Drexel Theatre – Friday, September 12 at 7:00 PM (with Q&A) and Saturday, September 13 at 9:15 PM About Big Deal Pictures 📽️Big Deal Pictures is an independent production company founded by filmmaker Jon Osbeck.
