The Cinema Columbus Film Festival just announced that the Columbus-made, major independent film "Down to the Felt" will headline the festival's opening night.
The screening will serve as the central Ohio premiere for the film.
"While the film festival doesn't just feature local works, it is very exciting to get the chance to feature such a hyper-local, hyper-beautiful work as part of our festival," said festival director Brett Reiter. "The intent has always been to, sort of, match the global with the local and have all of our filmmakers in conference with each other but, as a very special treat, as a filmmaker in Columbus first to, sort of, present a Columbus film as our centerpiece as opening night, it's going to be a beautiful thing."
According to Osbeck, "Down to the Felt" is the largest independent feature film made in central Ohio to date.
Co-written by Osbeck and fellow Columbus-based filmmakers Ralph Scott and Dino Tripodis, the film was designed from the outset to spotlight the talents of central Ohio industry professionals both in front of and behind the cameras. Now those local filmmakers will be able to celebrate the film's release with the red-carpet premiere event.
"I think it's really important that Columbus realizes what we have with Cinema Columbus," said Osbeck. "Not only for filmmakers like myself and other filmmakers in the area, but to shine a spotlight on the kind of work and the talent that's in this city that continues to grow."
Cinema Columbus Film Festival's premiere event for "Down to the Felt" will be held on April 30 at the Southern Theatre in downtown Columbus. It is a ticketed event that's open to the public. For more information, click here.
